This wine is the entry level Syrah from Saviah Cellars and shows the lighter and fruitier side of this varietal, with much success. Spending 17 months in 20% new French oak, this dark purple offering doesn’t make you wait long for the flavors to emerge. Marionberry, fig and anise are present and plentiful on entry, with just a little white pepper to spice things up. Settled and soft tannins escort you on the journey, giving up an enjoyable mouthfeel. This wine is probably the least dense of the Syrah offerings from the Saviah Cellars 2020 lineup, but trust me, it does not lack a solid backbone or structure. Mid-palate through finish remained balanced, continuing to showcase the abundant black and blue fruit. This affordable wine is one that I’d be thrilled to enjoy on a frequent basis over the next seven or eight years.
