Merlot coming from the Rocks District isn’t very common, but winemaking wizard Matt Reynvaan creates a scintillating bottle of wine that stands apart from the crowd. Now I wouldn’t be able to identify this wine as Merlot in a blind tasting, but it’s impeccably made, wonderfully complex, and perfectly balanced. Deep blackberry and blue-plum fruited with slight hints of white grapefruit, which is my telltale sign that this comes from The Rocks. Green whole peppercorn and dried blueberry are present on the mouthwatering finish, as are shades of flint, crushed volcanic rock, pencil shavings, and iron. Highly recommended.
