Always one of my favorite Syrah from Washington State, the 2020 In The Rocks Syrah is another stellar example of this wine. Reductive on the nose at first, you must give this wine some time in the glass to come together. But once it does, you are gifted glorious notes of blue plum, matchstick, dried violet flower, dried grapefruit peel, crushed volcanic rock, dried herbs, and black olive tapenade. The palate is much tarter and leaner than the nose and delivers ample fruit, spice, and meaty tones, along with a slight scorched earth note that is absolutely lovely. Acidity runs on the medium-plus side, and tannins are smooth and silky. Enjoy this one now or over the next decade. Highly recommended.
