BETZ FAMILY WINERY Syrah, Walla Walla Valley ‘Domaine de Pierres’ 2021

With fruit coming from the Ancient Stones Vineyard, the 2021 Domane De Pierres from Betz magnifies a glowing medium ruby-purple core with a bluish rim in the glass. It’s a classic Walla Walla Valley Syrah with notes of black and blue plum, grilled game, crushed Spanish olives, white grapefruit pith, and toasted black peppercorn. It’s multi-faceted and delicate but also funky and intriguing at the same time. The 2021s are coming in strong, which is terrific news for the Betz team, who didn’t produce wines in 2020 because the fruit came in with a touch of smoke taint. Highly recommended.
