REYNVAAN Syrah, Walla Walla Valley ‘Foothills Reserve’ 2021

I gave one of my only 100-point scores last year to the 2020 Foothills Reserve, and I will give the 2021 the same honor. It could be even better than its predecessor, and I can’t wait to open a bottle of each vintage in a few years to see who comes out ahead. Fruit coming from the estate surrounding the Reynvaan home and winery and creates a completely different wine than the other Renyvaan vineyard sites. Pour a bit into your glass and wait for 5 minutes for the wine to envelop some air, then get ready for a mind-numbing experience. Think notes of crushed blue and black fruits, bacon fat, white grapefruit zest, white tobacco leaf, and crushed green peppercorns. It’s a wine that takes some time to go through because you want to think about it while you drink it. And once the bottle is gone, you will want to pop another one. But give this some time, as it’s going to drink perfectly over the next 10-15 years with proper cellaring. Highly recommended and editor’s choice.
