L’ECOLE NO. 41 Red Blend, Walla Walla Valley ‘Apogee Pepper Bridge Vineyard’ 2020

The 2020 L’Ecole No. 41 Apogee is inky purple in hue and was brought up un 40% new French oak for 22 months. Composed of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 12% Malbec, and 4% Cabernet Franc, it is one of the standouts of the lineup. With slight cherry on the nose, the entry is soft, settled, and classy. Black cherry, slight prune, and boysenberry comprise the fruit components, with licorice and cherry pipe tobacco integrating nicely in the background. The mouthfeel is fantastic throughout the early part of the ride. It keeps its poise and polish as it moved mid-palate, flashing fig paste and a second level depth of the earlier fruit components. This wine has an intriguing complexity and is a well-blended offering that works in so many ways. No need to delay gratification, it is ready now and should have 15+ years of enjoyment ahead of it.
