DOMAINE SERENE Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley ‘Monogram’ 2018

Taken from the best of the best fruit and barrel selections, the 2018 Monogram is a masterclass in winemaking. The heat of the 2018 vintage does come through as it’s a rich, opulent Pinot Noir that still dances lightly on its feet. A dark neon purple core with a light purple rim showcases beautifully in the glass. Starting off with dark plum fruits, huckleberry pie, orange-tinted chocolate tones, secondary characteristics of purple potpourri, dried lavender, sweet spice, Blood orange peel, umami, and wet earth bring up second chair. Crunchy sweet tannins, gorgeous acidity, and a lengthy finish complete this complex, structured, deep and brooding wine. Better in 2024. Highly recommended and editor’s choice.
