2013 Top 100: Rank # 1 - Wine of the Year
The 2010 Epoch Authenticity is a blend of 76% Syrah and 24% Mourvedre, the Syrah is own-rooted and grown on the steepest, limey-ist hillside on the Paderewski Vineyard. The wine itself brings intoxicating aromas of black cherry reduction, blueberries, kirsch, indian spices, cocoa, wet stones and even beautiful fresh violets emerge as this unwinds in the glass. It is dense and concentrated, demonstrating impressive depth, power and remarkable balance. The finish is long and rich, leaving behind a thick coating of juicy dark fruits, spices and chocolate flavors which all come together in harmony and linger on and on. This was aged for 20 months in 65% new French oak. Just an all-around fantastic wine that is very much approachable today, but it also has the potential to last decades.
