The 2012 Inizi Charbono is sourced from 40-year old vines from an unnamed vineyard, which is composed primarily of crushed volcanic clay in the southern part of Calistoga. It displays an opaque, inky purple color, delivering intense aromas of blueberry, mulberry, exotic spices, crème brulee and kirsch liquor. Extremely ripe and densely concentrated, but also shows a layer of underlying acidity before entering the finish where it leaves behind a thick coating of dark fruits and spices. This is certainly has its own very unique style and characteristics and with less than 80 acres of Charbono planted in the entire US you likely won’t see much of this going around.
