The 'M' by Michael Mondavi is a completely compelling wine in 2012. This outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon comes from mountain vineyard high atop Atlas Peak in the Napa Valley on 15 acres of rocky, volcanic soil. As it begins to open in the glass it delivers seductive aromas of dark cherries, currants woven together with mocha, spring floral, graphite, anise, sweet spices and dusty minerals. The Full body is wrapped in gorgeous velvety tannins with layers of dark fruits that resonate across the palate. It continues to impress with its beautiful balance as it expands beautifully onto the long, polished finish that leaves behind delicious ripe fruits and lovely streaks of minerality. Overall, the 'M' is a wonderful example of both power and finesse. Even at this early stage this is extremely appealing, however there is no doubt it will only continue to improve as it evolves and adds on some additional characteristics with age.
