The 2013 Ermitage 'Le Pavillon' is a simply sensational showing in this vintage. The Syrah was sourced from vines 90-100 years, totally destemmed and fermented in concrete tanks, prior to spending between 18 and 20 months in oak casks. The wine itself instantly begins to impress with its gorgeous inky color and beautifully complex aromas of blackberries, raspberries, violets, spices, pepper, leather, smoke, black olive and minerals nuances which all develop in the glass. On the palate this is equally as impressive as it offers a gorgeous medium body with precise concentration and focus. It continues to impress as it demonstrates a remarkable overall balance, finesse and complexity through the graceful finish. While this is utterly captivating now, it will ultimately go on to evolve beautifully for many years too come.
