The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino 'Vecchie Vigne' from Siro Pacenti is simply outstanding. As this begins to unwind in the glass it releases gorgeous characteristics of dried cherries, exotic spices, smoke, crushed wildflowers and hints of wild herbs that form the beautifully nuanced aromatics. Medium to full-bodied and remarkably structured, this goes on to impress with outstanding concentration and balance, leading to core of beautifully pure red and dark fruits which are underlined by a lovely streak of acidity that provides wonderful freshness heading into the finish. While this will require a bit more time than the Pelagrilli to hit its stride, the quality is certainly evident, as this is an absolutely fantastic Brunello that will have a brilliant future ahead.
