The Tierra Roja Vineyard, owned by Linda Neal, gets its name from its distinct red soils. It is located on a unique hills side in the Eastern section of Oakville and surrounded by some of Napa Valley’s most recognized names like Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle and Rudd. The wine itself opens with aromas of mulled cherries and blackberries woven together with tobacco, mint, violets, sweet spices and hints of molasses. This is most impressive for is remarkable balance between elegance and power together with excellent structure, a gorgeous round texture which ends in a long expressive finish. This will demand cellaring, but the style reminds me of a young Saint-Julien and I expect this to age gracefully for years to come. (Best 2020-2032) - January, 2016 (JD)
