Hints of dried peppermint, crushed black olives, ground pink peppercorn, vanilla seed, and cured meats hit the nose, with additional aromas of dried blueberry, fresh lavender, ox blood, black licorice, and old leather following. It’s a complex and exciting Syrah from winemaker Todd Alexander. Deep purple cored, with a neon purple rim, it sees 25% whole cluster during fermentation and 30% new French oak during aging. Elegantly balanced between the earth, meaty notes, rich fruits, lovely acidity, and perfect tannins, this one has the stuff to age for a decade more and is highly recommended.
